My Mexican Casa

December 12, 2018

As a family we travel a lot for both work and pleasure but there is one place that we travel to very often and call it our Mexican Casa. It is also the place I use as a benchmark to compare to all the hotels we stay at. Why do we go to Rosewood Mayakoba often? Many of our friends who have never been there often ask us this.

Hopefully I can shed some light here on why we love this place and to me, from an overall experience is where I rate as the number one place to visit on my list of places I love to go to. But, I don’t want to ruin any of the surprises for many of you if you ever get a chance to visit this enchanted place.

Rosewood Mayakoba is located about 35 min from the Cancun airport. For those living in New York, Florida, Texas and even California, this is a very easy place to get to.

I think we often think of just staying in the states for a quick get away and never think much of Mexico, at least this is how I used to think. Well not anymore…..

The first time my husband and I went to the Rosewood Mayakoba, we were there for an early anniversary trip. We had informed the hotel ahead of time we were celebrating and opted for a Beachfront studio. We love the beach and always love to wake up and sleep listening to the sound of the ocean. This was our first time here and we only knew one other person who’ve been. So, no expectations. I did plenty of research on where to stay and was deciding between the Viceroy and Rosewood and opted for the Rosewood.

For many of you who have been to resorts in Playa del Carmen, many of them have a large gate off the main road and then you drive in and the resort is further in. Mayakoba consists of a golf course and now four resorts.  At the time of my first visit, it was just the Rosewood, Fairmont and Banyan Tree. Since then and 9 visits later, the Andaz has been added. The Rosewood is hidden way back in the Mayakoba compound. As you near the resort, it has its own gate and is well protected. Many people have been concerned of the crimes that have been happening in Mexico but for us, we always feel safe at the Rosewood and know that they have our safety in mind.

Upon arrival, you are greeted with a refreshing cocktail. If you request your transportation through the hotel, which is my preference, they will have your cocktail preference upon arrival.  As of this month, the hotel has implemented a new “Meet and Greet” where they will meet you upon arriving at plane side and will escort you quickly through the airport and customs and be on your way to Mayakoba!  Is this fabulous or what?  Will be taking advantage of this on our visit this month!

So why is this place so fabulous?  As a parent, it’s a place I can go to relax, have family time, and also know my little guy is having a great time and being taken cared of.  I can’t say this about too many places.  The Rosebuds kids club has activities for your children throughout the day plus they have incredible babysitters at a reasonable price! When Michael was one we took him to Mayakoba for the first time and at the time, he was not a great sleeper and I was hesitant about hiring someone to take care of him.  Well, was I wrong! Ami not only was able to make sure Michael had a great time, she was able to put him to bed on the nights that we were busy and he slept like a baby in the luxurious baby crib!  I have never seen any hotel with plush bedding for babies! The hotel uses the same sheets in the cribs as they do on their beds!

The staff at Rosewood Mayakoba is what makes the place so special.  Each and every staff loves what they do and it shows.  They always make us feel right at home and ensure that every little thing is taken cared of with great detail and care.  During our first stay, we celebrated an early anniversary and during one of the nights we came back to the cutest little wooden bench with our initials on it!  It was so adorable.  This was among one of the many things that the staff at Rosewood Mayakoba has surprised us with.  I don’t want to say too much as I don’t want to ruin any surprises…plus they personalize for their guests so not everyone will receive the same surprise.

When we took Michael for the first time, the staff made the visit all about Michael!  At breakfast during our first morning, one of our dear friends in guest relations came to greet us and gave Michael a beautiful bib with his initials and the beautiful Ceiba tree.

In speaking of Ceiba… this is a beautiful sacred Mayan tree in a beautiful garden at Rosewood.  This garden has been named the Ceiba garden because of this beautiful tree.  Twice a week and sometimes more, there is a beautiful dinner created by Juan Pablo and his staff  that the guests and the staff at the Rosewood attend and share wonderful conversations and beautiful music, food, alcohol and cigars until late into the night.  It’s a place where the staff sits down with the guests and gets to know you.  It’s also a dinner where you will make new friends and find out many of you have the love of this property as a common factor.

I have many more wonderful things to say about the Rosewood Mayakoba but will leave it for my other posts.  This is a place we love to visit during Easter, Memorial weekend and Festive.   There are many activities for both adults and children to do throughout the year.  I have even taken taco making classes with the great Rick Bayless!  Anything is possible here.  All you have to ask and the staff will try to make it happen for you.  I have never heard the word NO in this place!
